Purandara Dasa of the fitheenth-sixteenth century, who is said to be the father of present day classical Carnatic music, initiated a system of teaching Carnatic music and presented the initial scale of notes to be taught to a beginner. Purandara Dasa was a great devotee given to spending his whole life in meditation on God and singing his praises.
Far from affording artists continuous inspiration, mass-media sources for art have become a dead end. They have combined with the abstractness of institutional art Teaching to produce a fine-arts culture given over to information and not experience. This faithfully echoes the drain of concreteness from modern existence— the reign of mere unassimilated data instead of events that gain meaning by being absorbed into the fabric of imaginative life.robert hughes
To get, then, the mind of Christ,'and to declare it, is the primary end of the Teaching offices of the church. The living body of sympathetic men, saturated with the truth and feeling of the Book, must bring it into contact with other men, through that marvelous organ the human voice, and with such aid as comes from the subtle sympathy that pervades assemblies of human beings.john hall
My Teaching, if that is the word you want to use, has no copyright. You are free to reproduce, distribute, interpret, misinterpret, distort, garble, do what you like, even claim authorship, without my consent or the permission of anybody.u. g. krishnamurti
...my opinion is that we have, in the person of Da Free John, a Spiritual Master and religious genius of the ultimate degree. I assure you I do not mean that lightly. I am not tossing out high-powered phrases to 'hype' the works of Da Free John. I am simply offering to you my own considered opinion: Da Free John's Teaching is, I believe, unsurpassed by that of any other spiritual Hero, of any period, of any place, of any time, of any persuasion.adi da
The Bible is like a wide and beautiful landscape seen afar off, dim and confused; but a good telescope will bring it near, and spread out all its rocks and trees and flowers and v__ulant fields and winding rivers at one's very feet. That telescope is the Spirit's Teaching.thomas chalmers
The best assurance any one can have of his interest in God, is doubtless the conformity of his soul to Him. When our heart is once turned into a conformity with the mind of God. when we feel our will conformed to His will, we shall then presently perceive a spirit of adoption within ourselves, Teaching us to say, "Abba, Father."ralph cudworth
It is like a wide embrace gathering all those who have long searched for words of hope… Saddened by the continual strife amongst believers of many confessions and wearied of their intolerance towards each other, I discovered in the Bahá'í Teaching the real spirit of Christ so often denied and misunderstood.queen of romania marie of edinburgh
I have laid the stick that connects people together. Now it is up to you, your generation and the generations to come, to build upon that stick a bridge that will ensure the free sharing of information and Teaching between the two peoples until the day we become united again as a single people, as we were once before; before men separated us with their imaginary political boundaries of today's Polynesia and Micronesia.mau piailug
I have come to believe ... that the stage may do more than teach, that much of our current moral instruction will not endure the test of being cast into a lifelike mold, and when presented in dramatic form will reveal itself as platitudinous and effete. That which may have sounded like righteous Teaching when it was remote and wordy, will be challenged afresh when it is obliged to simulate life itself.jane addams
It is the malady of our age that the young are so busy Teaching us that they have no time left to learn.Eric Hoffer
I think of physics as the liberal arts of technology . You understand the fundamental aspects of physics, and then you can learn the technology and understand how it relates to current world problems. I'm Teaching the elementary physics that is most useful for someone who is trying to live in a technological world, to contribute to that world, and to make correct decisions.
Protestantism itself, in its early phases, was plainly a movement toward mysticism: its purpose, at least in theory, was to remove the priestly veil separating man from the revealed Word of God. But that veil was restored almost instantly, and by the year 1522, five years after Wittenberg, Luther was damning the Anabaptists with all the ferocious certainty of a medieval Pope, and his followers were docily accepting his Teaching.
Teaching and research are not to be confused with training for a profession. Their greatness and their misfortune is that they are a refuge or a mission.claude lévi-strauss
Nothing is more difficult than to determine what a child takes in, and does not take in, of its environment and its Teaching. This fact is brought home to me by the hymns which I learned as a child, and never forgot. They mean more to me almost than the finest poetry, and they have for me a more permanent value, somehow or other.
I used to think that prayer should have the first place and Teaching the second. I now feel that it would be truer to give prayer the first, second and third place, and Teaching the fourth.james o. fraser
I verily believe that the kingdom of God advances more on spoken words than it does on essays written and read; on words, that is, in which the present feeling and thought of the Teaching mind break into natural and forceful expression.richard salter storrs
Nature never did betray the heart that loved her.Nature is beyond all Teaching. (Strauss, 1994 p. 764)
Although our grammar schools are Teaching a whole generation computer language to adjust to the technological needs of a Stage II [post survival-focused] society, we have neglected to teach this generation relationship language and conflict resolution skills to address the social and psychological needs of a Stage II society. And when it is taught, in countries like Germany, although called social competence it focuses on workplace teamwork -- still on survival, breadwinner oriented work goals.warren farrell
Self-study, in a sense of learning by yourself without anybody Teaching you anything, has an enormous value.robert kraft
Great men in Teaching weak men to reflect have set them on the road to error.vauvenargues, luc de clapiers, marquis de
A parable is a form of Teaching in which one thing is thrown beside another. Hence its radical idea is comparison.
As preachers we are to promote Christian culture, by bringing the dead branches to the living Vine, that, grafted into it, without a rag of hum1.n righteousness between, the life of Him may enter them; and by keeping them, as far as Teaching and example can do it, abiding in Him, that they may bring forth fruit.
To cease from evil, to do good, and to purify the mind yourself, this is the Teaching of all the Buddhas.
Haskell is one of the leading languages for Teaching functional programming, enabling students to write simpler and cleaner code, and to learn how to structure and reason about programs.
All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and Teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
