Peace, commerce, and honest friendship, with all nations entangling alliances with none.

— Thomas Jefferson, inaugural address, March 4, 1801.—The Writings of Thomas Jefferson, ed. Andrew A. Lipscomb, vol. 3, p. 321 (1904). This thought had been similarly expressed earlier in his letter to Edward Carrington, December 21, 1787: "I know too that it is a maxim with us, and I think it a wise one, not to entangle ourselves with the affairs of Europe."—The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, ed. Julian P. Boyd, vol. 12, p. 447 (1955). George Washington did not use any form of "entangle," but shared a like political view in his letters to Patrick Henry, October 9, 1795: "My ardent desire is … to keep the U States free from political connexions with every other Country. To see that they may be independent of all, and under the influence of none," and to Gouverneur Morris, December 22, 1795: "My policy has been … to be upon friendly terms with, but independent of, all the nations of the earth. To share in the broils of none."—Writings of George Washington, ed. John C. Fitzpatrick, vol. 34, p. 335, 401 (1940).

In the first place, most princes apply themselves to the arts of war, in which I have neither ability nor interest, instead of to the good arts of Peace. Theyare generally more set on acquiring new kingdoms by hook or by crook than on governing well those that theyalready have.

There’s one bright spot in the generally gloomy picture know as the Pacific Conflict Zone. According to my calculations, by the year 2500 or so we should have killed off every last member of our species who is stupid enough to take part in so futile a pastime as this war between “ideals,” and with luck they won’t have left their genes behind because they’ll typically have been killed at an age when society thinks they’re too young to assume the responsibility of childbearing. After that we may get some Peace and quiet for a change.

In a world of danger and trial, Peace is our deepest aspiration, and when Peace comes we will gladly convert not our swords into plowshares, but our bombs into peaceful reactors, and our planes into space vessels. "Pursue Peace," the Bible tells us, and we shall pursue it with every effort and every energy that we possess. But it is an unfortunate fact that we can secure Peace only by preparing for war.

I have lived with my conscience and my own memories for over quarter of a century since the events of 1973.… These are not easy reflections for me. But I am at Peace with myself, and with the Chilean people, about what happened. I am clear in my mind that the return to Chile of true democracy, and from that the true freedom to which all individual people are entitled, could not have been achieved without the removal of the Marxist government.

The true object of religion is to bind mankind together, and to bind them all to God. If we see that in the name of religion, men, instead of promoting Peace on earth and good-will among men, are trying to show their antagonism and animosity towards each other, then certainly we must stand forward with our voice of protest, and say that religion is defeating its own legitimate object.

keshub chunder sen

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may Peace be upon him) as saying: The last hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews and the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: Muslim, or the servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him; but the tree Gharqad would not say, for it is the tree of the Jews.

The Palestinians need an America that is just in its vision and in its demands. It is true that the Palestinians are the weaker party in terms of the balance of power, which makes it easy to pressure them. But Peace cannot be bullied into existence.

Kilday, Gregg (November 13, 1973), "Under the Astrodome – Maharaj Ji: The Selling of a Guru, 1973", Los Angeles Times : D1 Maharaj Ji: The thing is, if you write an article, maybe the credit goes to you or not; but if Peace is established in the world, definitely there will be a credit for you. And this is the most important point that press reporters usually look for, 'Will we get credit out of this or not?'
