And I will add this point of merely personal experience of humanity: when men have a real explanation they explain it, eagerly and copiously and in common speech, as Huxley freely gave it when he thought he had it. When they have no explanation to offer, they give short dignified replies, disdainful of the ignorance of the multitude.
I know LSD; I don't need to take it anymore. Maybe when I die, like Aldous Huxley.albert hofmann
On the whole, the change had done Huxley a share of good. Death made him a handsomer man to deal with. You could talk to him now and he’d have to listen.ray bradbury
Mr. Aldous Huxley, who is perhaps one of those people who have to perpetrate thirty bad novels before producing a good one, has a certain natural but little developed aptitude for seriousness.
Too often critics seem more intent on seeking new ways to alter Congress than to truly learn how it functions. They might well profit from the advice of Thomas Huxley, who said a century ago: "Sit down before facts as a little child, be prepared to give up every preconceived notion or you shall learn nothing."jerry ford
I would trade all the advantages of humanity to be a fly on the wall when Franklin and Jefferson discussed liberty, Lenin and Trotsky revolution, Newton and Halley the shape of the universe, or when Darwin entertained Huxley and Lyell at Down.stephen jay gould
My own view is that this planet is used as a penal colony, lunatic asylum and dumping ground by a superior civilization , to get rid of the undesirable and unfit. I can't prove it, but you can't disprove it either. It happens to be my view, but it doesn't challenge any of the findings of Darwin or Huxley or Einstein or Hawking .christopher hitchens
I profoundly admire Aldous Huxley, both for his philosophy and uncompromising sincerity . But I disagree with his advocacy of 'the chemical opening of doors into the Other World', and with his belief that drugs can procure 'what Catholic theologians call a gratuitous grace'. Chemically induced hallucinations, delusions and raptures may be frightening or wonderfully gratifying; in either case they are in the nature of confidence tricks played on one's own nervous system.Arthur Koestler
Darwin , Huxley , Spencer , and Tyndall , have not advanced a step nearer to the construction of the universe without the aid of a spiritual intelligence than Lucretius did in poems.

It's important to remember that Thomas Huxley recognized Socrates as the first agnostic. Socrates very much believed in a God , although his deity was somewhat vague and outside of his people's polytheistic religion. Philosophically Socrates was the very essence of agnosticism .
