Jainism has a distinct concept of underlying Thirthankara worship. The physical form is not worshipped, but their Gunas ; virtues , qualities are praised. Thirthankaras remain role-models, and sects such as the Sthanakavasi stringently reject statue worship.
All actions are performed by the gunas of prakriti. Deluded by identification with the ego, a person thinks, " I am the doer."
For none ever remains inactive even for a moment; for all are compelled to action by the gunas inherent in Prakriti.
In Prakriti and gunas , the concept of prakriti is used in Sankhya philosophy to explain the evolution of the universe . Prakriti is defined as the ultimate unconscious primal matter or the ultimate cosmic energy, the material cause of the universe.
By unswerving devotion to Me, a man crosses over three gunas - I am the Abode of Brahman , Eternal and Immutable , of everlasting Dharma and Absolute Bliss .
