Clouds on clouds, in volumes driven, Curtain round the vault of heaven.
Heaven's ebon vault, Studded with stars unutterably bright, Through which the moon's unclouded grandeur rolls, Seems like a canopy which love has spread To curtain her sleeping world.Percy Bysshe Shelley
Allah's Apostle said, "In Paradise there is a pavilion made of a single hollow pearl sixty miles wide, in each corner of which there are wives who will not see those in the other corners; and the believers will visit and enjoy them. And there are two gardens, the utensils and contents of which are made of silver; and two other gardens, the utensils and contents of which are made of so-and-so (i.e. gold) and nothing will prevent the people staying in the Garden of Eden from seeing their Lord except the curtain of Majesty over His Face."
"I do not know whether behind appearances there lives and moves a secret essence superior to me. Nor do I ask; I do not care. I create phenomena in swarms, and paint with a full palette a gigantic and gaudy curtain before the abyss. Do not say, "Draw the curtain that I may see the painting." The curtain is the painting.
From Stettin in the Baltic toTrieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the Continent.Lord Randolph Henry Spencer Churchill
A good essay must have this permanent qualityabout it; it must draw its curtain round us, but it must be a curtain that shuts us in not out.(Adeline) Virginia ne e Stephen Woolf
For what is life but a play in which everyone acts a part until the curtain comes down?
At this moment it seems as though science will never be able to raise the curtain on the mystery of creation. For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream. He has scaled the mountains of ignorance; he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries.robert jastrow
I deal with painting as I deal with things, I paint a window just as I look out of a window. If an open window looks wrong in a picture, I draw the curtain and shut it, just as I would in my own room. In painting, as in life, you must act directly.pablo picasso

If the German people lay down their weapons, the Soviets, according to the agreement between Roosevelt , Churchill , and Stalin , would occupy all of East and Southeast Europe along with the greater part of the Reich. An iron curtain would fall over this enormous territory controlled by the Soviet Union, behind which nations would be slaughtered.joseph goebbels
In early youth, as we contemplate our coming life, we are like children in a theatre before the curtain is raised, sitting there in high spirits and eagerly waiting for the play to begin. It is a blessing that we do not know what is really going to happen. Could we foresee it, there are times when children might seem like innocent prisoners, condemned, not to death, but to life, and as yet all unconscious of what their sentence means.Arthur Schopenhauer
The theatre is not the place for the musician. When the curtain is up the music interrupts the actor, and when it is down the music interrupts the audience.arthur sullivan
Whilst twilight's curtain spreading far, Was pinned with a single star.thomas hood

While twilight's curtain gathering far, is pinned with a single diamond star.
…The low green tent Whose curtain never outward swings.john greenleaf whittier
From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic , an iron curtain has descended across the Continent. Behind that line lie all the capitals of the ancient states of Central and Eastern Europe. Warsaw , Berlin , Prague , Vienna , Budapest , Belgrade , Bucharest and Sofia , all these famous cities and the populations around them lie in what I must call the Soviet sphere, and all are subject in one form or another, not only to Soviet influence but to a very high and, in many cases, increasing measure of control from Moscow .
...the veil is a symbol of sexual apartheid and the segregation of the sexes. In countries where Islam rules, like in Iran , the separate entrances for women in certain government offices; separate areas for women’s seating on buses for example; the banning of women from certain public arenas like sport stadiums; a curtain dividing the Caspian sea for segregated swimming and so on is what it means in practice to be a female under Islam. That people transgress these rules daily is a testimony to their humanity and not the laws or state that imposes it by force.
Wherefore are these things hid? Wherefore have these gifts a curtain before 'em?
We will draw the curtain, and show you the picture.
Leave the shower curtain on the inside of the tub.
From behind the Iron curtain, there are signs that tyranny is in trouble and reminders that its structure is as brittle as its surface is hard.
Since I finished playing rugby league, apartheid has ended, the Iron curtain has come down and the Israelis have given up the Gaza Strip to the Palestinians. But I still can't play rugby on a Saturday afternoon.
