Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.
There is continual spring, and harvest there Continual, both meeting at one time: For both the boughs do laughing blossoms bear, And with fresh colours deck the wanton prime, And eke attonce the heavy trees they climb, Which seem to labour under their fruits load: The whiles the joyous birds make their pastime Amongst the shady leaves, their sweet above, And their true loves without suspicion tell abroad.Edmund Spenser
If thy heart fails thee, climb not at all.
Most people think, when they're young, that they're going to the top of their chosen world, and that the climb up is only a formality. Without that faith, I suppose, they might never start. Somewhere on the way they lift their eyes to the summit and know they aren't going to reach it; and happiness then is looking down and enjoying the view they've got, not envying the one they haven't.
I am overwhelmed by an irresistible temptation to do my climb by moonlight and unroped. This is contrary to all my rock climbing teaching & does not mean poor training, but only a strong-headedness.william shockley
There is always in the healthy mind an obscure prompting that religion teaches us rather to dig than to climb; that if we could once understand the common clay of earth we should understand everything. Similarly, we have the sentiment that if we could destroy custom at a blow and see the stars as a child sees them, we should need no other apocalypse. This is the great truth which has always lain at the back of baby-worship, and which will support it to the endgilbert keith chesterton
If education really educates, there will, in time, be more and more citizens who understand that relics of the old West add meaning and value to the new. Youth yet unborn will pole up the Missouri with Lewis and Clark, or climb the Sierras with James Capen Adams, and each generation in turn will ask: Where is the big white bear? It will be a sorry answer to say he went under while conservationists weren’t looking.aldo leopold
Like plants in mines, which never saw the sun, But dream of him, and guess where he may be, And do their best to climb, and get to him.Robert Browning
So clomb the first grand thief into God's fold; So since into his church lewd hirelings climb.john milton
That headlong ivy! not a leaf will grow But thinking of a wreath, Large leaves, smooth leaves, Serrated like my vines, and half as green. I like such ivy, bold to leap a height Twas strong to climb! as good to grow on graves As twist about a thyrsus , pretty too (And that's not ill) when twisted round a comb.
Daily with souls that cringe and plot, We Sinais climb and know it not.james russell lowell
Carry his body hence! Kings must have slaves: Kings climb to eminence Over men's graves: So this man's eye is dim; Throw the earth over him!henry austin dobson
Now as I was young and easy under the apple boughs About the lilting house and happy as the grass was green, The night above the dingle starry, Time let me hail and climb Golden in the heydays of his eyes. And honoured among wagons I was prince of the apple towns.dylan thomas
