I sing the hymn of the conquered, who fell in the battle of life, The hymn of the wounded, the beaten who died overwhelmed in the strife; Not the jubilant song of the victors for whom the resounding acclaim Of nations was lifted in chorus whose brows wore the chaplet of fame, But the hymn of the low and the humble, the weary, the broken in heart, Who strove and who failed, acting bravely a silent and desperate part.
It has been said, "History is written by the victors." I take this to mean we can make ourselves victorious by writing, and then rewriting our own stories. In a country and culture so dominated by media, by the manipulation of words and stories, telling the tales of people whose stories historically have not been told is a radical act and I believe an act that can change the world and help rewrite history.jennifer beals
History is written for the victors and what they leave out is the losers.
Megalomania is the occupational disease of global victors, unless controlled by fear.Eric (John Ernest) Hobsbawm

Stand us against a wall and shoot us, well and good, you are victors. But why should I be brought before a Tribunal like a c-c-c-... I can't even get the word [criminal] out!robert ley
Even the children of Carmona were divided into two camps, and below the ramparts, among the brushwood and rocks, we battled with stones shouting "Long live the duke!" and others, "Down with the tyrant!" We fought viciously, but I was never satisfied with this game the fallen enemy rose again, the dead came back to life. The day after a battle, victors and vanquished both found themselves unharmed.Simone de Beauvoir
The future life of Europe was not their concern; its means of livelihood was not their anxiety. Their preoccupations, good and bad alike, related to frontiers and nationalities, to the balance of power, to imperial aggrandizements, to the future enfeeblement of a strong and dangerous enemy, to revenge, and to the shifting by the victors of their unbearable financial burdens on to the shoulders of the defeated.john maynard keynes
I fear you. As victors, you may become the bureaucracy: doling out to each his bit as in a poorhouse, assigning to each his task as in a prison. And you will exterminate the creator of new worlds, the free human will, and stop up the purest well of human happiness the power of the one to face thousands, to stand up to peoples and generations.isaac leib peretz
It is a trial within a nation but a trial of victors against the vanquished. Even before the trials started, the victors who are our judges were quite convinced that we were guilty and that we should all pay the price.julius streicher
Hail! to the victors valiant / Hail! to the conqu'ring heroes / Hail! Hail! to Michigan, / The champions of the West!
It is always a part of the misfortunes of the vanquished that their portraits are painted and their history written by the victors.A. yankee
They fought as they revelled, fast, fiery, and true, And, though victors, they left on the field not a few; And they who survived fought and drank as of yore, But the land of their heart's hope they never saw more, For in far, foreign fields, from Dunkirk to Belgrade Lie the soldiers and chiefs of the Irish Brigade.thomas osborne davis
The division of the spoils between the victors will also provide employment for a powerful office, whose doorsteps the greedy adventurers and jealous concession hunters of twenty or thirty nations will crowd and defile.john maynard keynes
Afterwards they added races for chariots and pairs of foals, and for single foals with rider. It is said that the victors proclaimed were: for the chariot and pair, Belistiche, a woman from the seaboard of Macedonia; for the ridden race, Tlepolemus of Lycia. Tlepolemus, they say, won at the hundred and thirty-first Festival, and Belistiche at the third before this.pausanias
