I think there is a danger with young people of being dependent in the sense that they don't acquire any identity or self-image of themselves as thinkers. They just go and look it up or they just chat with someone. In other words, relying on something rather than saying: "Okay, I've got the information, how do I create value from it?"
The myth of Canada, its hidden story, is of a contemplative country, a place of inwardness, where people can question the idea of nationhood and ponder what values we wish to see expressed and achieved, and what solitudes of Identity and reverie we wish to preserve.b. w. powe
Daily life is a comprimised blend of posturing for the sake of role-playing and of varying degrees of self-revelation. Under stressful conditions even the "true" self cannot be precisely defined, as Erving Goffman observes. ...Little wonder that the Identity crisis is a major source of modern neuroticism , and that the urban middle class aches for a return to a simpler existence.e. o. wilson
The sense of unhappiness is so much easier to convey than that of happiness. In misery we seem aware of our own existence, even though it may be in the form of a monstrous egotism: this pain of mine is individual, this nerve that winces belong to me and to no other. But happiness annihilates us: we lose our Identity.graham greene
We do not demand for our own people any more than the basic human rights which we would extend to every nation, people and tribe on this planet: the right to preserve their own territory, traditions and ethnic Identity. The right to preserve, in other words, the things which, by marking their differences from the mass of humanity, make them human and turn their society from an ant heap into a community.nicholas john griffin
Violence, whether spiritual or physical, is a quest for Identity and the meaningful. The less Identity, the more violence.Marshall McLuhan
In contrast to the asexual chasteness of official communist art , Nazi art is both prurient and idealizing. A utopian aesthetics (physical perfection; Identity as a biological given) implies an ideal eroticism: sexuality converted into the magnetism of leaders and the joy of followers. The fascist ideal is to transform sexual energy into a "spiritual" force, for the benefit of the community.Susan Sontag
Lack of specificity around stakeholder Identity remains a serious obstacle to the further development of stakeholder theory and its adoption in actual practice by business managers . Nowhere is this shortcoming more evident than in stakeholder theory's treatment of the constituency known as 'community.
Dear Kashubian brothers and sisters! Cherish the values and the heritage that define your Identity.
I also would like to encourage you; encourage you to continue to preserve your Identity while fostering family ties, deepening the knowledge of your language and striving to pass down your rich Kashubian tradition to the younger generation.
An Identity based in the one-way love of God does not take into account public opinion or, thankfully, even personal opinion.
Man found his form and his Identity under the action of religious principles and energies; the confusion in which he is losing them cannot be re-ordered by purely human efforts.
Mr Kemblesacrificestoomuchto decorum. He ischiefly afraid of being contaminated by too close an Identity with the character herepresents. This isthegreatest vice in an actor, who ought never to bilk his part.william hazlitt
...there is nothing like a 'private home' online, because we don't sleep there, and we don't need toilets or showers there. So a lot of the privacy issues in the real world -- like what the police can seize without a warrant, or whether you have to admit your Identity when asked -- don't really play online. Online privacy is seldom about private property, but about access to information.stowe boyd
A big advantage of the serial-number approach to Identity is that things stay the same even as they change.brian hayes
The appearence of Sheikh Mujib was the biggest event in the national history of Bangladesh. His burial did not take place through his death. More pragmatic, efficient, capable and dyanmic political personalities than Sheikh Mujibur Rahman might have emerged or may emerge, but it will be very difficult to find someone who has contributed more to the independence movement of Bangladesh and the shaping of its national Identity.sheikh mujibur rahman
By practice and conviction formed, With ancient stubbornness ingrained, Although her body clung and swarmed, My own Identity remained.yvor winters
To speak from a particular place and time is not provincialism but part of a writer’s Identity.dana gioia
Education is an important element in the struggle for human rights. It is the means to help our children and our people rediscover their Identity and thereby increase their self respect. Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs only to the people who prepare for it today.malcolm (malcolm little) x
I use colors that have already been experienced through the light of day and through the state of mind of the total man. In other words, my colors are not colors that are laboratory tools which are isolated from all accidentals or impurities so that they have a specified Identity or purity.mark rothko
You need the "is of Identity" to describe conspiracy theories. Korzybski would say that proves that illusions, delusions, and "mental" illnesses require the "is" to perpetuate them. (He often said, "Isness is an illness.") Korzybski also popularized the idea that most sentences, especially the sentences that people quarrel over or even go to war over, do not rank as propositions in the logical sense, but belong to the category that Bertrand Russell called propositional functions. They do not have one meaning , as a proposition in logic should have; they have several meanings, like an algebraic function.robert anton wilson
Such dialectical relation of opposites in and by the proposition is rendered possible by the recognition of the subject as an historical agent whose Identity constitutes itself in and against its historical practice, in and against its social reality. The discourse develops and states the conflict between the thing and its function, and this conflict finds linguistic expression in sentences which join contradictory predicates in a logical unit conceptual counterpart of the objective reality. In contrast to all Orwellian language, the contradiction is demonstrated, made explicit, explained, and denounced.herbert marcuse
Zionism proceeds from the assumption that the Jews are still a people or nation, many of whom cannot or will not assimilate themselves to other peoples, and wish to retain their Identity as a national community.
One of Parmenides' merits is to have been the first philosopher who strove to handle general concepts like "being", "not-being", "knowing", " unity ", "Identity", in their systematic connection.
Too many women throw themselves into romance because they're afraid of being single, then start making compromises and losing their Identity. I won't do that.
A lot of kids are bullied because of their sexual Identity or expression. It's often the effeminate boys and the masculine girls, the ones who violate gender norms and expectations, who get bullied.
"[There are] cases of straight queerness, and of other forms of queerness that might not be contained within existing categories or have reference to only one established category...new queer spaces open up (or are revealed) whenever someone moves away from using only one specific sexual Identity category--gay, lesbian, bisexual, or straight--to understand and to describe mass culture, and recognizes that texts and people's responses to them are more sexually transmutable than any one category could signify--excepting, perhaps, that of 'queer.'"
