I think there is a danger with young people of being dependent in the sense that they don't acquire any identity or self-image of themselves as thinkers. They just go and look it up or they just chat with someone. In other words, relying on something rather than saying: "Okay, I've got the information, how do I create value from it?"
The myth of Canada, its hidden story, is of a contemplative country, a place of inwardness, where people can question the idea of nationhood and ponder what values we wish to see expressed and achieved, and what solitudes of Identity and reverie we wish to preserve.b. w. powe
The sense of unhappiness is so much easier to convey than that of happiness. In misery we seem aware of our own existence, even though it may be in the form of a monstrous egotism: this pain of mine is individual, this nerve that winces belong to me and to no other. But happiness annihilates us: we lose our Identity.graham greene
We do not demand for our own people any more than the basic human rights which we would extend to every nation, people and tribe on this planet: the right to preserve their own territory, traditions and ethnic Identity. The right to preserve, in other words, the things which, by marking their differences from the mass of humanity, make them human and turn their society from an ant heap into a community.nicholas john griffin
Violence, whether spiritual or physical, is a quest for Identity and the meaningful. The less Identity, the more violence.Marshall McLuhan
In contrast to the asexual chasteness of official communist art , Nazi art is both prurient and idealizing. A utopian aesthetics (physical perfection; Identity as a biological given) implies an ideal eroticism: sexuality converted into the magnetism of leaders and the joy of followers. The fascist ideal is to transform sexual energy into a "spiritual" force, for the benefit of the community.Susan Sontag
Daily life is a comprimised blend of posturing for the sake of role-playing and of varying degrees of self-revelation. Under stressful conditions even the "true" self cannot be precisely defined, as Erving Goffman observes. ...Little wonder that the Identity crisis is a major source of modern neuroticism , and that the urban middle class aches for a return to a simpler existence.e. o. wilson
Lack of specificity around stakeholder Identity remains a serious obstacle to the further development of stakeholder theory and its adoption in actual practice by business managers . Nowhere is this shortcoming more evident than in stakeholder theory's treatment of the constituency known as 'community.
Dear Kashubian brothers and sisters! Cherish the values and the heritage that define your Identity.
I also would like to encourage you; encourage you to continue to preserve your Identity while fostering family ties, deepening the knowledge of your language and striving to pass down your rich Kashubian tradition to the younger generation.
Canada is the only country in the world that knows how to live without an Identity.
I don't think it is wrong, racist, immoral or anything, for a country to say 'we will decide what the cultural Identity and the cultural destiny of this country will be and nobody else'.john howard
Body and soul, Black America reveals the extreme questions of contemporary life, questions of freedom and Identity: How can I be who I am?june jordan
All of us need an Identity which unites us with our neighbours, our countrymen, those people who are subject to the same rules and the same laws as us, those people with whom we might one day have to fight side by side to protect our inheritance, those people with whom we will suffer when attacked, those people whose destinies are in some way tied up with our own.roger scruton
What is important to me in my work is the Identity that is hidden behind so-called reality. I search for a bridge from the given present tot the invisible, rather as a famous cabalist once said, ‘If you wish to grasp the invisible, penetrate as deeply as possible into the visible’.max beckmann
Any loss of Identity prompts people to seek reassurance and rediscovery of themselves by testing, and even by violence. Today, the electric revolution, the wired planet, and the information environment involve everybody in everybody to the point of individual extinction.Marshall McLuhan
Some of the biggest cases of mistaken Identity are among intellectuals who have trouble remembering that they are not God.thomas sowell

Young people, who are still uncertain of their Identity, often try on a succession of masks in the hope of finding the one which suits them the one, in fact, which is not a mask.
Finally, Krste Misirkov, who had clearly developed a strong sense of his own personal national Identity as a Macedonian and who outspokenly and unambiguously called for Macedonian linguistic and national separatism, acknowledged that a Macedonian national Identity was a relatively recent historical development.
Quite apart from the fact that it conflicts with the demands and the content of the word of God, nihilism is a denial of the humanity and of the very Identity of the human being. It should never be forgotten that the neglect of being inevitably leads to losing touch with objective truth and therefore with the very ground of human dignity.
The trick...is to find the balance between the bright colors of humour and the serious issues of Identity, self-loathing, and the possibility for intimacy and love when it seems no longer possible or, sadder yet, no longer necessary.”
All forms of violence are quests for Identity. When you live on the frontier, you have no Identity. You're a nobody.
It is funny about money. And it is funny about Identity. You are you because your little dog knows you, but when your public knows you and does not want to pay for you and when your public knows you and does want to pay for you, you are not the same you.
What is that ‘something’, some inherent strength? Doubtless it lies in the liberal character of the Indian civilization, which allows for cross-fertilization with other cultures, without losing its own Identity. Even time (kala), the great devourer, has stood testimony to the fact that the deep foundations of Indian culture could not be shaken either by internal upheavals, however great may have been their magnitude.... " the soul of India lives on!"
I salute the contribution that Rugby League has made to Australia's national Identity, it's a tough game. It started as a working man's game; it's become every man's game now. It still retains that working class character and that's part of its heart and soul and I hope it always does, but it is also a game that has reached out to the entire community.
